Highway 261 Widening Project

As Pelham continues to experience growth and development, it has become essential to expand and upgrade this state highway to accommodate rising traffic volumes, enhance safety, and support the overall well-being of our residents.

Project at a Glance

ALDOT will widen Highway 261 to five lanes from Bearden Road to US Highway 31. The goal is to alleviate congestion, especially during peak hours, providing smoother traffic flow. This should also significantly reduce the risk of accidents, making the highway safer for everyone. By easing traffic congestion and enhancing safety, the project aims to improve the overall quality of life for Pelham residents. Once complete, there will be two lanes of travel in each direction with a designated center left turn lane. The project also extends to Valleydale Road, which will be widened to five lanes between US-31 and Riverchase Parkway East. Hwy 261 highlighted on a map
